Passport informationTraveling to the UK?
Effective January 8, 2025 the United Kingdom now requires an electronic travel authorization (ETA) to enter the country. The ETA is not currently required for other European countries.
The ETA, or Electronic Travel Authorization, is the UK’s pre-departure security screening process for travelers from visa-exempt countries.
All U.S. and Canadian travelers visiting the UK, including those with layovers or connecting flights at any UK airport.
It is recommended to apply via the UK ETA app. If travelers prefer not to use the app, they can apply online.
You will need a photo of your passport, upload a photo of your face and your email address.
Yes, the fee is GBP 10 (approximately 13 USD), payable by credit card or Apple Pay.
Yes, even passengers transiting through the UK without passing border control need an ETA.
Passengers with a British, British Overseas Territory or Irish passport; a visa to enter the UK; or permission to live, work or study in the UK do not need to apply for an ETA.
Yes, passengers will receive an email confirmation upon submission and a second email within approximately 3 business days once their ETA is approved.
Once approved, your ETA will be digitally linked to the passenger’s passport, so no separate confirmation will be needed at the airport.
Once approved, the ETA will be linked to your passport used for the application and will be valid for two years. If a new passport is issued within those two years, a new ETA must be obtained.
