The UTAA Women's Council, a volunteer organization, was officially initiated in the spring of 1970. The purpose of the Women's Council was to increase participation of women in all activities of the university, the national alumni association and to serve as an advisory council for educational programs and activities. To date, nine Women's Council members have gone on to become President of the UT Alumni Association:
In an effort to attain their goals, the council also inaugurated a continuing education program. For nearly 40 years, an increasing number of alumnae have become involved in (1) special continuing education programs designed to offer new perspectives on contemporary topics for UT alumni and the general public, and (2) student recruitment, alumni chapter events, the Annual Giving Program and the Board of Governors. Currently, the education programs feature nationally known speakers and are presented throughout the state of Tennessee and select cities outside the state as a public service of the UT Alumni Association.
