Twenty-two of these awards, valued at $3000 annually, are currently funded on the five campuses of the University of Tennessee. They represent a direct attempt on the part of the National Alumni Association to attract and retain outstanding professors. Once selected, the individual faculty member continues to receive stipend as long as he or she remains at the university in a full-time professional position.
Excellence in classroom teaching is respected and admired at the University of Tennessee. Alumni Outstanding Teacher Awards are given to faculty members on all campuses who have been selected by their colleagues and students as the outstanding teachers in a given year. These awards are valued at $2000 each. Recipients are ineligible for the award for a five-year period.
These awards recognize faculty and staff members who make substantial contributions during a particular year to the welfare and good of the state or national public. These recipients are selected by a committee appointed by the university president. Winners are selected from recommendations made to the president from the chancellors or vice presidents on behalf of Knoxville, UT Chattanooga, UT Martin and the UT Health Science Center in Memphis. The awards are $2000.
