New UT Alumni Chapter in Pennsylvania

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Alumni and friends in the Pittsburgh area, the University of Tennessee is now in your backyard. The UT Alumni Association is announcing a new alumni chapter in the Pittsburgh, PA area.

The UT Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter has already held TV Viewing Parties this fall at Sports Rock Café in the Strip District as well as a chapter alumni picnic with a pumpkin picking event for families at Reilly's Summer Seat Farm. These two events have jumped started the chapter and they are looking forward to many more socials and meetings.

"I felt getting a chapter in Pittsburgh was important. In the short time we have been established it has allowed me to meet and network with alumni in the area that I may have never met otherwise. The chapter also allows me to meet alumni who have recently moved to our fine city and are interested in getting connected," Alex Lowery, Pittsburgh chapter president, said.

Lowery and other board members Jacqui McMenamin, Tina Lynch and Mike Littlejohn have started planning two happy hours for the summer months, more TV Viewing Parties for the fall and have set a date for an alumni meeting on November 15, 2008. All dates, times and locations can be found at www.pittsburghvols.com.

"It is important to stay in contact with UT and to catch up with friends and past professors. I particularly like to find out the latest research that is going by UT faculty and students." Lowery said.

"It is also a way to meet and connect with folks who have a warm affection for UT and East Tennessee. It was amazing to me to see how much I had in common with other UT graduates I met at our functions," Mike Littlejohn, Pittsburgh chapter board member, said.

Lowery is excited about growing the Pittsburgh chapter and wants you to get involved. Feel free to view the chapter website at www.pittsburghvols.com or contact Alex Lowery at alex.lowery@pittsburghvols.com.
