As Tennessee’s flagship public university, the University of Tennessee is dedicated to serving the citizens of the state by fulfilling its three-fold mission teaching, research, and public service. Annual appropriations from the state, which are approved by the General Assembly, allow the university to provide the quality education that Tennesseans deserve.
The Alumni Association has worked closely with the General Assembly for well over 100 years. In fact, members of the association, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees and members of the General Assembly, cleared the way for the University of Tennessee to receive its first state appropriation back in 1903.
Today 116 men and women across the state volunteer to serve as members of the Alumni Legislative Council. This legislative advocacy group cooperates with the university administration in a coordinated effort to contact state legislators and government officials on issues concerning higher education in general and UT in particular.
